If it wasn’t for the internet, including YouTube, we would know about the amazing skills and talents of people around the world. People have made a choice to show what they know and we’re better for it. Sure, we’ve also found out how dumb people are in the process, but with the good, you have to take the bad.
I came across the video below on Facebook posted by my friend Tim Gwynn. It’s truly amazing. What it and think about the following thoughts.
- When the first guy came up with the idea, did he have to sell it to his friends? Was it an easy sell? Imagine that conversation.
- How many hours of practice did these guys put in before they mastered the song? I’d guess thousands!
- How many times did they fail? Think about this. They probably failed A LOT! Did they ever want to give up?
- What was the thrill like the first time they nailed it? I bet that feeling was incredible.
Now, let’s think about using this video or a similar video with students. Would it have an impact on kids if we showed the video and discussed the questions above? Could we get students to perhaps take on more challenges or try new things? I think we could. I also wonder if it’d be possible to reach out to one of the guys and see if they could share their thoughts. It just might be possible, all thanks to the internet!

He's had his second chance. And a third. And a fourth....where does it end? At what point do we say enough is enough. Just because someone is a celebrity doesn't mean that bad behavior is acceptable. In fact, I think it should be LESS acceptable. These are people that are in the public eye, children and young adults look up to them. They should be modeling the type of behavior that benefits society, not the kind that degrades it.
