In my previous post, I mentioned the disaster I experienced when trying to present at our state conference. I also mentioned that I’d be writing a follow up post within a few days. Well, it’s taken a few weeks.
After I wrote about this and posted the story on Twitter, I was really surprised at the responses. It seems that this has happened to a lot of people or they know of someone who had a similar experience. I guess this made me feel a little better, but it’s 2009 people. This should not be happening.
Here’s what I learned:
- This experience has happened to many. It doesn’t excuse the problem, however.
- The cost I could have paid for a hard wired connection ($400) has been witnessed elsewhere.
- The fees large convention centers charge for wireless/projectors/equipment is borderline robbery.
- A “Plan B” is necessary – screen shots, for example.
- We (as a city/country) are no where near where we need to be with wireless broadband.
I’ll try presenting again someday. Hopefully the experience will be much better than this.
